CEO Desiree Perez Announces Specialized Scholarship

In July of 2021, CEO of Long Island University in Brooklyn and Roc Nation School Desiree Perez announced a scholarship for a singular excellent student. The scholarship will be funded for four years by rapper and popular performance artist Megan Thee Stallion, who will also be providing mentorship while serving as a lecturer. The student chosen for the program is essentially asked to audition for it with multiple others, supplying samples of their music and an explanation of why they’re the best prospective individual for the scholarship. Identifying talent and giving it an opportunity to thrive is a recurring theme for the Roc Nation School, both in the school’s inception and development under CEO Desiree Perez.

Megan Thee Stallion shares this value, aiding the educational opportunities to help students who might otherwise not be able to flourish and show the world what they have to offer by being unable to attend college. Desiree Perez is dedicated to equity and inclusion, making it a core tenet to the Roc Nation School. Numerous freshmen will later graduate with Roc Nation Hope Scholarships, where they will be absolved of all student debt. The pool of these students chosen for the scholarship will be selected from academically gifted applicants. Named as CEO in 2019, Perez brought plenty of experience with her to the position, having served for 12 years as a chief operations officer in a company she and Jay-Z founded many years prior.

Roc Nation is an internationally acclaimed school, representing some of the most famous names in the sports, entertainment, and music industries. The school provides undergrad programs in music technology and production, the music itself, sports management, and entrepreneurship. Guest lecturers often feature Grammy-winning celebrities, and the school offers internships to students that give pragmatic industry experience. The ultimate aim of Perez and the faculty is to bring knowledgeable expertise, versatility and skill, and practical experience to the classrooms of Roc Nation.
