Let’s perform a thought experiment. The thought experiment will revolve around a single mom named Beth and the giant 20,000-employee corporation that employs her.

Beth works for the Corporation because options are limited in her area. She’s politically active and is vocal for a candidate that promises to clean up the environment in her community. However, Beth’s corporation has decided to pump millions of dollars into political action committee’s to help Beth’s favorite candidate lose.

The Corporation wins and Beth’s favorite candidate loses. The Corporation used giant sums of money to get Beth’s political opponent to win because he promised to relax environmental regulations. This will save the Corporation millions of dollars and will allow them to pollute in Beth’s community. As a result, Beth’s child gets sick. Find out more about End Citizens United at indeed.com

This scenario has been made very real by a Supreme Court decision known as Citizens United. The Supreme Court decided that corporations are people with the right to free speech. The free speech is expressed with cash flowing into political action committees in order to sway elections in the best interests of the corporation. Unfortunately, in this scenario, Beth was unwittingly helping her corporation pollute her community and make her child sick through her employment. How is this fair?

End Citizens United is also a political action committee. They have been formed to fight off any possibility of this scenario coming true. End Citizens United has a plan to protect Beth and all the other Beth’s out there.

The group’s short-term goals include getting Democratic candidates elected who will work to end Citizens United. They are also branching out all over the country to work with local governments to improve campaign finance laws. And they have dispatched campaign-finance watchdogs to critical elections around the country in order to keep eyes on Republican candidates.

This should help mitigate the disastrous effects of Citizens United. It will take a long time for End Citizens United to actually end Citizens United. It will take a very strong law or a constitutional amendment to undo the damage that five conservative Supreme Court justices did back in 2010. China has for many years been in the spotlight for being behind numerous cases of intellectual property theft. A high number of cases have reportedly affected the United States. Chinese have been stealing intellectual theft of the Americans and using it to make substandard goods which they later sell in the United States at low prices. President Trump has now made this difficult for China. Noticing the recklessness that has guided the trade agreements between these two countries, Trump has moved in to stop China from enjoying too much freedom especially on matters of intellectual theft.

Trump does not want to allow the United States to continue suffering from intellectual theft. He has passed tariffs which will affect Chinese imports worth over $50 billion. Chinese have been using various forms of intellectual property theft to accomplish their goals. There is stealing of trade secrets, making counterfeit products, extorting technology secrets from other businesses among others. Due to the vast market, they enjoy today; they have made it hard for other countries to enjoy fair competition.

It is not the first time that the issue of intellectual property theft is coming up. Many trading partners have accused China of being behind unfair tactics in winning trade deals. Many countries have at some point stopped trading with China, but as the economy of China grows tremendously, the countries are forced to deal with Chinese products. China has been growing its trading partners in recent times despite most of the goods and services they offer being a product of intellectual property theft. President Trump has moved with speed to stop the matter. The tariffs will correct the situation and create a level playing ground for all trading partners.

The political action committee known as End Citizens United recently announced four more endorsements for the coming midterm elections.

The first is former navy SEAL Josh Butner who will seek to defeat Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter for California’s District 50 seat. Hunter has been named to ECU’s “Big Money 20” list. This list denotes politicians who have been especially egregious in taking big money from giant corporate special interests and billionaires.

The next announced End Citizens United candidate is Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. She will make her challenge for Florida’s 26th District. If selected to run by Florida Democrats, Mucarsel-Powell will take on Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in what promises to be an extremely competitive race.

ECU has also chosen to back Max Rose for the New York District 11 race. Rose will be the first post-9/11 combat veteran and Afghanistan War vet to seek office in a New York City district. The seat is currently held by Republican Rep. Daniel M. Donovan.

Finally, End Citizens United has endorsed Sylvia Garcia for the 29th District seat of Texas. The Texas 29th is currently held by Democrat Gene Green who is not seeking reelection.

All four of these candidates strongly support the primary goal of End Citizens United – which is to get the corrupting influence of big money out of politics. ECU was established in 2015 in reaction to the 2010 Citizens United ruling which made it legal for mega-corporation and billionaires to donate as much money as they want to any political candidate.

Those candidates tend to be far-right, radical Republicans who are beholden to the corporate cash cows who helped them buy their way into public office. The founders of End Citizens United say the average American voter is increasingly being shoved aside – their interests ignored – as Senators and House members do the bidding of their campaign cash contributors.

End Citizens United has raised $35 million dollars without taking big donations from major corporations or private billionaire oligarchs. Rather, ECU has put together its PAC money the old-fashioned way – one small donation at a time from ordinary American citizens.

In fact, the average donation from more than 400,000 people who donated to ECU is just $14. To date, more than 3 million people have signed on as members of End Citizens United. Working together with individual hard-working Americans, getting big money out of politics is possible – and electing more Democrats to both houses of Congress is the just the first step.

End Citizens United is a political action group that hopes to reform the campaign finance system. It came into being March 1, 2015 after the Supreme Courts decision to treat corporations as people, allowing billionaires and other special interest groups to make unlimited donations to the campaigns of politicians to support their agendas.

End Citizens United points out that the donations are untraceable and results in no accountability or transparency. The organization also points out how it makes it possible for foreign entities to influence US elections, including the Russian meddling investigation, Chinese nationals donation of $1.3 million to a Jeb Bush super PAC through American Pacific International Capital and donations to a super PAC by a wealthy Mexican Entrepreneur. According to Hi-Tech Chronicle, there was 15 cases being investigated by the FEC (Federal Election Commission) at the beginning of the year of illegal foreign campaign spending.

The Hi-Tech Chronicle article entitled, “Russians Weren’t the Only Meddlers in the 2016 Election According to End Citizens United,” dated October 31, 2017, told of many measures proposed by Democrats to combat the effect of the Supreme Court ruling, such as the Disclose Act and the By the People reform package. The End Citizens United PAC (political action committee) works to support those Democrats in their attempt to reform and fix the campaign finance system. To combat the big money influence in political campaigns, End Citizens United raised $4 million during the first three months of the year with its 1.8 million donors contributing on average just $12 each. Tiffany Muller, the Executive Director of End Citizens United, said that it will probably raise $35 million before the 2018 elections from individuals who believes that the system is rigged against them and this is their way of fighting back.

On their website, End Citizens United describes itself as Democrats fighting for reform and states that it is just getting warmed up. It also states that it is proud to be funded by thousands of grassroots supporters from around the country, siting its grassroots activist as its greatest strength. Its mission statement expresses the strategy of electing those who champion campaign finance reform, passing state ballot measures, and making these issues part of the national conversation as a national priority. End Citizens United hopes to have an effect on all three branches of government in the effort to enact campaign finance reform to combat the political influences of big money.
