Well accomplished plastic surgeon and modern day pioneer, Dr. Mark Mofid, is revolutionizing the cosmetic surgery practice and eliminating the negative perceptions associated with buttock augmentation. Facing this uphill battle, Dr. Mofid knows that new techniques and technologies are required, as well as a more advanced and evolved way of thinking to change the hearts and minds of millions who still question if implants are safe enough. Miraculously, he’s been meeting these challenges head on, answering the tough questions through his practice with successful procedures and with his profound aesthetic methodologies.
Graduating from Harvard and John Hopkins University School of Medicine with a medical degree and training in general and plastic surgery, Dr. Mark Mofid would start off his career studying under the best, the most well-renowned Raul Gonzalez, MD, a plastic surgeon in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, who has performed the most successful surgeries in the world. Under Dr. Gonzalez, Mofid would hone his techniques in buttock augmentation. Throughout the years, he’s seen so many changes from when he first started.
One of the initial problems Dr. Mofid encountered with buttock implants, was that the off-the-shelf solid silicone implants weren’t suffice enough for buttock implant procedures. In the beginning, roughly around 2007, the implants were just too bulky for intramuscular placement. For years, Dr. Mofid had to carve the implants down before surgery, something that was quite tedious and time-consuming.
This sparked a notion in Dr. Mofid’s mind, in terms of making changes in his surgical techniques and as well as his overall approach. He realized that he would have to use intramuscular implants, stating that, “Large implants have higher rates of palpability, incisional separation, and malposition. Gravity will eventually move these implants to an inferior position where the implant hangs over the butt fold.”
Upon further pondering, Dr. Mofid also realized that surgeons weren’t paying close attention when it came to the aesthetics of buttock augmentation. Using research studies that compared the waist-to-hip ratio and weight of female models, it was found that there is a certain waist-to-hip ratio of 0.68; regardless of the body mass indexes of every model. Comparing this to the “Fibonacci sequence or golden ratio”, Dr.Mofid was inspired by this ratio and would use it to frame his concepts of the ideal aesthetics when performing buttock augmentation.
Today, Dr. Mark Mofid’s thoughtful and analytical approach can be seen in his own practice at FACS, in San Diego, California, where he performs plastic surgery in the forms of rhinoplasty, breast and buttock augmentation and liposuction. Recently, he developed a new procedure and training video that prevents the nipple areolas from deterioration, yet instead, replaces the standard tissue with an added healing strengthener that allows surgical scars to naturally disappear. Dr. Mark Mofid continues to prove that his surgical skills are innovative and his vision and approach to the field of science is transcendental.
